PEKIN ~ Royce Eugene “Roy” Swanson, 82, of Pekin, passed away at 11:11 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Pekin Hospital in Pekin.

Born August 22, 1932 in Canton to Clifford Rudolph and Celia M. (Stewart) Swanson.  He married Kay Antoinette Rose on April 16, 1955 in Wautoma, Wisconsin.  She survives. 

Also surviving are his three sons, Michael (Kelly) Swanson of Glendale, California, Stevan (Holly) Swanson of Pekin, and Paul (Judy) Swanson of Pekin; five grandchildren, Andrea Kay, Michael Z., Kenneth, Joseph, and Jack. Step-grandchildren, Micah Harlan and Gabrielle Janssen; and three great-grandchildren, Alivia, Jayden, and Kinleigh.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt Doris Blank, and grandson, Jody Alexander.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

He worked for Standard Oil and later Mobil Oil as plant manager retiring in 1992.

He was past president of the Jaycees, Police Commissioner, and a city councilman for Wautoma, Wisconsin. 

He enjoyed collecting cameras and was a freelance photographer.  He loved bowling, going to hot air balloon rally’s, and car shows.  He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, Bradley Braves and University of Wisconsin –Green Bay.  He was an avid jazz music follower and a WWII historian.  He also loved watching his grandchildren, Joe and Jack participate in sporting events.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Father Scott Potthoff will officiate.  Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Army.
