PEKIN ~ Thaddeus John “Ted” Just, 93, of Pekin, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 at UnityPoint Health – Pekin.

Born August 10, 1923 in Chicago, he was the son of Zigmunt and Olga Just.  He married Bernadine Irene (McCoy) Scamp on August 21, 1970 in Pekin.  She survives.

Also surviving are four grandchildren, Mark (Margo) Scamp and Brenda (Mike) Young, both of Pekin, Julia Greiner of Manteno, and Melissa (Jon) Little of Pekin; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one niece, Cathy (Chuck) Tomczak of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Just and Walter Just; and one step-son, James Howard Scamp.

Ted attended St. Mary’s Magdalene Catholic Grade School and Bowen High School in Chicago.  Following his military service, he attended Business College in California.

A United States Coast Guard veteran of World War II, he served from August 21, 1941 to August 21, 1946.  He served in the South Pacific on USS LST-830 including two trips to Japan with occupation forces.

Ted worked for the Allen and Garcia Company in Chicago for 12 years, retiring in1983 as an accountant and purchasing agent.  Previously, he worked for Illinois Farm Supply Company as an accountant.

He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.

Ted enjoyed gardening, dancing, bowling and golfing.

Private graveside services will be held at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.  Father Michael Andrejek and Deacon Mark Scamp will officiate.  Military rites will be accorded by the United State Coast Guard and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.

Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
